Ahead of the expected Ukrainian counter-offensive, the Ukrainian ambassador in Berlin has called for more military support from Germany in the fight once morest the Russian attackers. “Other anti-aircraft systems such as Iris-T, Patriot and Gepard are most urgently needed. For the planned counter-offensive, we need more armored vehicles, tanks and artillery systems, long-range ammunition in the shortest possible time,” said Oleksii Makeiev of the Funke media group.

Europe’s security depends on the speed and scale of arms and ammunition supplies to help Ukraine restore territorial integrity. “Russia’s defeat is a guarantee of normal life in Europe,” said the ambassador.

Makeiev praised the previous arms deliveries from Germany. “I am satisfied that Germany is fully involved in planning aid for Ukraine very strategically and in the long term together with the NATO partners. We need such an uninterrupted process to achieve success on the front.”

So far, Germany has supplied Ukraine with 18 Leopard 2A6 main battle tanks, 40 Marder infantry fighting vehicles and 34 Gepard anti-aircraft tanks, as well as the Patriot and Iris-T air defense systems.

Referring to the goal of Ukraine’s spring offensive, the diplomat said: “Ukraine’s armed forces and people are determined to defend their own country until the last Russian soldier leaves our territory.” Regarding the preparations for the offensive, Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov had previously said that “a high percentage of them are already complete”.
