Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the , and sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, it was down 0.88%.
The best performers of the session were AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals (LON:), which rose 1.04% or 99.00 points to trade at 9,600.00 at the close. Meanwhile, GSK plc (LON:) rose 0.95% (15.40 points) to end at 1,641.80; British Centrica Group (LON:) rose 0.82% (1.10 points) to 135.55 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Barratt Developments PLC (LON:), which fell 4.59% or 22.40 points to trade at 466.10 at the close. Taylor Wimpey Company (LON:) fell 4.39% or 6.50 points to end at 141.45 and Fresnillo PLC (LON:) was down 4.38% or 21.60 points to 471.80.
1,198 stocks on the London Stock Exchange fell, which outnumbered the number of stocks that closed higher – 563. At the same time, 691 stocks did not rise or fall, which was basically the same.

The price of the gold futures April options contract fell 1.24% (25.25 points) to $2,007.75. GBP/USD did not rise or fall by 0.19%, with an exchange rate of 1.26; at the same time, EUR/GBP was basically unchanged at 0.33%, with a quote of 0.85.
U.S. dollar index futures rose 0.63% to trade at 104.70.
