Stocks in the United Kingdom closed lower at the end of trading on Monday, as the indices accompanied the downside, and losses were recorded in the sectors of metals and mining industries, mining and fixed lines.
At the close in London, the Investing.com UK 100 closed down 0.22%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com UK 100 were DS Smith PLC (LON:SMDS), which rose 5.93% or 18.20 points to trade at 325.20 at the close. On the other hand, Ferguson Plc (LON:FERG) share increased by 5.85% or 645.00 points and closed at 11,670.00, while Share Barclays PLC (LON:BARC) increased 5.53% or 8.90 points at 170.00 at the end of the session.
As for the weakest performance at the end of today’s trading, the stock closed Glencore PLC (LON:GLEN) declined at 5.82% or 29.75 points, and traded at 481.55 levels at the close. Arrow Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) declined by 5.17% or 201.50 points at a price of 3,698.50, while the stock Rio Tinto PLC (LON:RIO) closed down at 4.76% or 265.00 points at 5,299.00.
The number of shares that gained the most exceeded the number of shares that closed lower, trading on the London Stock Exchange with 1257 compared to 659, while 416 remained unchanged.
Gold futures contracts for April delivery fell 1.29% or 25.60 and closed at $1,959.40 an ounce. As for other commodities, the WTI crude oil futures contract for April delivery fell 6.83% or 7.47, and reached the price of $101.86 a barrel, and the May contract for Brent oil futures declined by 6.14% or 6.92 points, and closed at $105.75 a barrel.
The GBP/USD pair maintained stability by 0.12% and traded at 1.30 levels, while the EUR/GBP continued to rise towards 0.75% and reached 0.84 levels.
The dollar index contracts traded with a decrease of 0.29% at the level of 98.90.
