Mr Johnson has resigned following receiving the results of an inquiry by MPs into misleading statements he made in Parliament regarding a series of government gatherings which breached lockdown rules during the pandemic.
The police eventually issued 126 fines for night parties, drunken parties and Friday aperitifs
including one to Mr Johnson, and the scandal helped hasten the end of his premiership.
In a statement, he accused opponents of trying to oust him.
Mr Johnson, whose career has been a roller coaster of scandals and comebacks, led the Tories to a landslide victory in 2019 and was kicked out by his own party less than three years later.
He had quit as prime minister in 2022 amid multiple scandals over money, ethics and judgement, but remained an MP.
