The UK government is preparing to control the sale of drugs containing paracetamol as part of a plan to reduce suicide rates. The action is part of the National Suicide Prevention Policy. According to the National Health Service, more than 5,000 people commit suicide in the UK each year. The sale of paracetamol and paracetamol-containing medicines is being regulated with the aim of reducing suicide rates within two and a half years. These are on the list of over-the-counter medicines. Currently, a person can buy 16 tablets of 500 grams containing paracetamol. In a study conducted by Cambridge University Press in 2018, it was found that most of those who attempt suicide use paracetamol. It can cause fatal liver damage.
