London: A new strain of monkeypox has been discovered in the UK. But no information regarding the symptoms and disease severity of the new strain is available yet.
The disease was found in a person who had returned from West Africa. Therefore, the UK National Health Agency advises those traveling to West Africa and Central Africa to be cautious. At present, the confirmed patient has been admitted to the hospital for treatment.
Efforts are being made to trace the people who were in contact with him. It is decided to admit all of them in quarantine.
In most countries where monkeypox has been confirmed, including the UK, the disease has mostly been diagnosed in homosexual men. But it is not possible to consider monkeypox as a sexually transmitted disease. The disease can be transmitted through close contact with the patient. The main symptoms of the disease are swelling of blisters, fever and fatigue in various parts of the body, including the genitals, causing pain and itching.
