British car production rose for the third consecutive month in July, the Association of British Automobile Manufacturers and Dealers said, registering an 8.6 percent increase compared to a weak performance last year when car manufacturers suffered from severe chip shortages and downtimes linked to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The association said 58,043 cars were made in Britain last month, up from 53,438 in July 2021, but production is still 46.4 percent below pre-pandemic levels as the sector grapples with supply chain shortages, structural changes and weak exports.
The crisis in Ukraine, a major hub for auto parts, as well as shutdowns in China and an acute shortage of spare parts have hurt UK car production.
