The Faculty of Medicine and Nutrition of the Juárez University of the State of Durango (UJED), under the coordination of the Research and Academic Promotion Committee, leads the “Heroes” campaign for bone marrow donation.

This initiative, in which the Faculty of Law and Political Sciences (FADER and CIPOL) and the Faculty of Economics, Accounting and Administration (FECA) also participate, aims to reach 450 potential donors.

Antonio Sifuentes Álvarez, director of FAMEN, explained that the campaign, which takes place from August 28 to 30, consists of a screening through which a saliva sample is collected from the participants. This sample is sent to a bank in Guadalajara, where it is genetically typed to identify possible matches for donations.

The civil association “Be the watch” is in charge of the process of identification and contact with compatible donors, who have the freedom to decide if they agree to continue with the corresponding process.

Rafael Mier Cisneros, director of FADER and CIPOL, emphasized the importance of making students aware of donation, be it blood or organs, and of cultivating this culture.

José Ramón Duarte Carranza, director of the FECA, highlighted the commitment of the UJED with social responsibility, reflected in campaigns like this one.

Lucía González Espinoza, in charge of the project and president of the UJED Research and Academic Promotion Committee (CIFA UJED), stressed the relevance of this campaign and inter-institutional collaboration to reach the proposed goal of 450 records of probable donors.
