UJAT rules out expanding enrollment for the medical career – El Heraldo de Tabasco

For reasons of quality in the training of students, the Juárez Autonomous University of Tabasco (UJAT), ruled out the expansion of enrollment for the medical career.

This was stated by the director of the Academic Division of Health Sciences (DACS) of the highest house of studies, Miriam Carolina Martínez López, who stated that it is not a matter of lack of classrooms, but of respecting the regulations established for the training of quality of new doctors.

“It is a question of spaces to do technical practices. The responsibility with the state of this institution is not to depart from the regulations stipulated for the quality training of students, and that is why the number of students who enter this division cannot be greater ”, he pointed out.

The doctor said that in a hospital, for each bed there can only be five students, “but there it includes the resident, it includes the intern, it includes the intern and it includes our student; if you see, there are the five. I wish there were only five students from those who are in clinical practices, or interns”.

He added that sometimes there are no places for interns or interns, “and we have a great relationship with the entire sector and we have been able to solve it.”

He said that although the enrollment of medical students cannot be expanded, that of other careers has been expanded, such as psychology, from which previously 90 students entered a year, and currently regarding 200 enroll.

It should be remembered that the medical career is the most requested in the institution, where in each school period, a large number of students are left without the opportunity to enter, and this fact has even caused parents to carry out blockades in protest. By this situation.

In contrast, during the registration period for the new February-August 2023 school year, 1,325 spaces did not register any application for admission to the careers of sociology, history, environmental management, administrative informatics, mathematics, actuarial, physics, computer sciences and aquaculture engineering.
