Five hundred people died in 2023 in the province of Uíge, victims of malaria, 75 less compared to the previous year, reported this Wednesday, the head of the Department of Public Health of Uíge, Lindeza Chaves.
Speaking to ANGOP, the official said that malaria cases resulted from a total of one million, 9 thousand and 910 records of the disease, compared to one million, 54 thousand and 854 in the year 2022.
He added that, since January this year, the province of Uíge has recorded 92 cases of malaria, 53 in January and 39 in February.
To minimize cases of the disease in the region, he said training seminars are underway for pastors and community leaders, to help raise awareness among the population regarding preventive measures once morest malaria.
He called on pregnant women to adhere to prenatal consultations to control malaria and, in this way, avoid child deaths in communities.
The person responsible also asked the population to continue to strive for basic environmental sanitation, correct use of mosquito nets, among other preventive measures.
Tuberculosis in Uíge
In relation to tuberculosis, the province also recorded a reduction. In 2023, 34 deaths were recorded, compared to 67 in 2022.
Regarding diagnosis, the region recorded, in 2023, two thousand and 925 cases, compared to the 2 thousand and 616 cases of tuberculosis in the previous period (2022).
He justified that the reduction in deaths was due to the improvement in the treatment of the disease and the carrying out of awareness campaigns on measures to prevent and treat the disease.
