How important is art for you alongside sport?
But art is not just a balance to sport, but to my whole everyday life.” marietta gyetko handball player & artist
Marietta Gyetko: Art has always been a balance for me, which I pursued on the side. It’s now a big part of my life. The art has taken on a higher status than I might ever have dreamed of. Unlike sport, art is without any rules. There are no limits for your creativity.
How did that come regarding?
Gyetko: I’ve always been passionate regarding painting, but unfortunately I didn’t have enough time during my school days at the sports boarding school to live out this part of me. In recent years I have missed this hobby of mine a lot and have started experimenting on canvases in the attic. Over time friends, family and strangers have become aware of my art and meanwhile I have already moved to my own studio on Eggenburg’s main square.
What kind of art do you do specifically?
Gyetko: Through experimenting with different colors, materials and techniques, I have developed my own method. This special species is not very common worldwide and therefore does not yet have a defined name.
Do you see this activity as a balance to sport?
Gyetko: In any case. Art is not only a balance to sport, but to my whole everyday life. I can process all feelings or impressions that I collect every day in sports or in everyday life in and through my pictures and thus bring them to the canvas.
To what extent do you do this?
Gyetko: Because I work in many fields, my time for art is somewhat limited. The scope can vary from 15 to 30 hours per week.
Do you mainly do commissioned work, or do you also do it for yourself, for some kind of collection?
Gyetko: Generally I do both. At the moment I’m in the fortunate situation that I have to postpone some orders because I’m preparing for my next exhibition. So far I’ve had three group exhibitions in Vienna, a solo exhibition in Eggenburg at the culture week “Alte Raume Junge Künste” and am currently represented in a major art magazine called “Spotlight Magazine”. In addition, my paintings are exhibited on an international art platform on the Internet called “Cheetahcraft.eu”. I was also given the honor of designing the inner courtyard and two murals in a new modern sports medicine practice in Mödling.
