Uganda is expected to be declared Ebola-free on Wednesday if no new cases are reported by then, the health ministry said in Kampala on Monday.
According to a statement from the ministry, it and its partners should announce the news on January 11 in the district of Mubende (center), the epicenter of the epidemic which broke out on September 20.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has advised that for a country to be declared Ebola-free, it must report no new cases for 42 days, which is two 21-day virus incubation cycles.
As of November 30, the country had recorded 142 confirmed cases, including 56 deaths and 86 recoveries, according to figures released by the ministry.
