UFC fighter of Chechen origin Khamzat Chimaev believes that the performance of Russian athletes under the flags of other countries should not be associated with a lack of patriotism. He stated this at a meeting with students and orphans at the Chechen State University.

“If we do not perform under the Russian or Chechen flag, this does not mean that we forget our roots. For me, patriotism is not forgetting where you come from and your adats (customs. – RBC) and laws. For me, wherever I am, even at the end of the world, in America, Sweden, I remain a Chechen, ” quotes Chimaev “Sport-Express”.

The head of the UFC called the Chechen champion Chimaev a miracle of nature

Chimaev believes that athletes should not be criticized for performing under other flags. “I don’t think it makes sense to criticize us for such things. You have to be smart and reasonable. All sorts of things are happening in the world right now. Touching athletes, meddling them in politics is wrong,” he added.

Chimaev was born in Chechnya and performs under the flag of Sweden. In the UFC welterweight rankings, he is ranked third. He won his first two victories in the UFC in a record short period of time – ten days. Chimaev, 28, has won all of his 12 MMA fights.
