UEFA’s disciplinary inspectors investigating Barcelona’s case of payments to Vice President of the Technical Committee of Referees of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) José María Enríquez Negreira have proposed to deprive the club of the right to play in the Champions League for one season, informs Spanish newspaper ABC.

The decisive word will be for the head of UEFA, Aleksander Ceferin, who, as the newspaper notes, is still choosing between waiting for the decision of the Spanish court or simply removing the club from European competition, which the organization’s charter allows to do.

At the same time, the report of one of the inspectors – the Swiss Jean Samuel Leiba – indicates signs of Barcelona’s attempts to influence the outcome of the matches.

UEFA’s final decision is expected in the coming days, the newspaper writes.

UEFA opens investigation once morest Barcelona over referee bribery

UEFA opened a case once morest Barcelona in March. Prosecutors believe that between 2001 and 2018, the club paid Negreira more than €7 million. Negreira himself claimed that this was a payment for refereeing advice, as Barcelona wanted to make sure that she was not sued.

The club also denied any wrongdoing.

The Spanish league will end this weekend. But “Barcelona” ahead of schedule became the winner of the tournament on May 14th.
