The readmission of Russian youth teams in UEFA competitions is apparently not set in stone yet.

UEFA is apparently on the verge of a U-turn on the Russia issue following massive criticism. At the meeting of the Executive Committee on Tuesday in Nyon, the corresponding item was withdrawn from the agenda “as no technical solution might be found to enable Russian teams to play,” as UEFA circles said. Specifically affected are the U17 teams, which cannot take part in the ongoing European Championship qualification.
On September 26th, the Executive Committee decided to re-admit Russian junior teams. A large number of European associations reacted with incomprehension. England, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland as well as Ukraine announced that they would not let their teams compete once morest Russian selections.
FIFA followed UEFA
According to media reports, the associations were said to have felt taken by surprise by UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin’s actions. The vote was carried out without prior consultation. “I interpret Uefa’s regarding-face as an admission that the timing of the efforts to reintegrate Russian teams into the youth tournament was completely wrong,” said Norway’s association boss Lise Klaveness ARD.
Only last week FIFA followed UEFA’s course and allowed Russian youth teams to play once more. It is unclear when UEFA will discuss how to proceed.
