UEFA Healthy Living: Catering Guidelines and Health Campaigns

2024-04-03 14:01:54

UEFA’s health and wellbeing policy underlines our commitment to harnessing the power of football to support healthy lifestyles, from encouraging physical activity across all age groups to ensuring European football venues meet the highest standards. of health.

Guidelines for a healthy and sustainable restoration

Launched in 2023, UEFA’s first Healthy and Sustainable Catering Guidelines set a new benchmark for sporting event organisers. Developed in collaboration with ALMA, the Italian School of Culinary Arts, the document offers practical advice on how to make responsible and sustainable food and drink decisions that minimize costs and waste.

The guidelines are part of our efforts across Europe to ensure that everyone can watch our competitions in a healthy and safe environment. From 2023, all venues for the finals of our club competitions will be smoke-free to protect people from the harmful effects of tobacco.

Coaches for Health Campaign

We also promote the mental and physical health benefits of playing football, regardless of age or ability. For example, in 2021, our #FeelWellPlayWell campaign mobilized the European coaching community to educate teenagers regarding the importance of choosing a healthy lifestyle.

“I have an important message for all young people. Too many young people exercise too little, and that worries me… Play soccer. Go for a run. Climb the stairs at home. Be active and move for 60 minutes every day.”

Louis van Gaal, Netherlands (#FeelWellPlayWell 2021)

More than 60 national team coaches recorded 10- to 30-second video messages advising youth ages 13 to 17 regarding nutrition, physical activity, mental health, and substance abuse, especially alcohol and tobacco.

We are currently developing a UEFA health and wellbeing toolkit. This will build on the messages delivered through our #FeelWellPlayWell campaign educating parents, coaches and young adults regarding the benefits of good nutrition, physical activity, mental wellbeing, healthy relationships with digital screens and road safety.
