Uefa confirms – investigates Bellingham

England superstar Jude Bellingham, a regular at Real Madrid, was responsible for a delicious goal on Sunday as the English national team turned to victory once morest Slovakia and qualified for the quarter-finals once morest Switzerland in the European Championship in Germany.

At the same time, he came into focus for having celebrated with obscene gestures. Some have interpreted it as the celebration being directed at the Slovakian bench, but the player has disputed that.

“An inside joke with a gesture to some close friends who were at the game. Nothing but respect for the way the Slovakian team played tonight,” Bellingham wrote on X.

Now Uefa announces, via the association’s website, that Bellingham is under investigation.

Uefa writes that the association’s ethics and disciplinary inspector will conduct a disciplinary investigation regarding Bellingham regarding a potential violation of basic rules of decent conduct.

In the future, Uefa will announce the findings of the investigation. Bellingham thus risks some form of punishment.

The English newspaper Daily Mirror points out that if Bellingham is judged to have violated Fifa’s disciplinary code, Article 57, there might be suspension and fines. ESPN, in turn, writes that it is unlikely that Bellingham’s gestures will result in a suspension, but at most a fine if he is found guilty.

Bellingham has so far scored two goals in four games in the EC.
