Functioning

way of champions

  • The draw concerns 20 teams: five direct entrants and the 15 winners of the first qualifying round matches played on 5/6 and 12/13 July.
  • Teams in each draw will be split equally between seeded and non-seeded clubs in accordance with the club coefficient ranking. For matches in the first qualifying round, the coefficient of the club with the higher coefficient of the two clubs involved in a match not yet played is used for the purposes of the draw.
  • UEFA will form three groups for the Champions Path draw, in accordance with the principles laid down by the Club Competitions Committee: two groups which will produce three matches each (Groups 1 and 2) and one which will produce four matches (Group 3 ).
  • The balls containing the names of the seeded teams/pairs will be placed in one bowl and the balls containing the unseeded teams/pairs will be placed in another bowl. A ball will be taken from each bowl and placed in a large empty bowl in the middle, where they will be mixed. The first team/pair drawn will play the first leg at home.
