Like Kobe Bryant and Dirk Nowitzki, Udonis Haslem will play a 20th season in the same jersey, and it will obviously be at the Heat! As promised, it was on the sidelines of his annual camp organized for children that the three-time NBA champion put an end to the suspense regarding his future.
“I will finish what I started, and I will play 20 years” he launched. “I do it for the city and for my father. It won’t be the same. It won’t be easy. But the objective remains the same: to win”.
If Haslem took almost two months to decide, it’s because he lost his father and he needed to think regarding what happened next.
“For me, there are a lot of things that come into play. There are a lot of things that I really had to think regarding. Playing 20 years in the NBA is a discussion I had with my father. But things change, and he’s gone now. Goals changehe explained. “It’s always something I have to fight once morest. Because it’s a subject we were talking regarding, with the will to do it in a certain way. Things have changed since he left, but we will find a solution”.
Undrafted, he will play 20 years in the NBA…
Used as a mentor by Erik Spoelstra, Haslem had also responded to those who believe that he has nothing more to do in the NBA, and therefore in Miami.
« Another misconception is that I occupy a place in the workforce. People don’t realize that we have the most undrafted players in the league on the team. There’s something going on here, but you fools can’t understand. You guys are so focused on my age and why I’m here. There’s a damn reason I’m here! »
