The UD Las Palmas and the Sevilla FC They started the 2024-2025 season in LaLiga EA Sports with a draw at the Gran Canaria Stadium (2-2), in a clash in which the attacks outperformed the defenses, and which left a worse taste in the mouths of the Andalusian team, who wasted two advantages on the scoreboard.

Both teams had problems getting the ball out from the back, as both coaches intended, Luis Carrion and Xavi Garcia Pepperwith some indecision on the part of the goalkeepers.

In the local goal, Cillessen started with a good save to Ocampos in the 4th minute, after a great play by Lukébakio on the left.

The yellow team, with a formation more similar to that of last season with Pimienta than what they had been practicing all summer, could not find Kirian, who was very much covered by Juanlu, although they ended up being rewarded precisely after an action by the Tenerife player.

Own goal by Alex Suarez

Sevilla took the lead in the 25th minute when Alex Suarez tried to cut out a forced cross from Adrià Pedrosa and beat his goalkeeper, the Dutchman Jasper Cillessen.

Just when it seemed that Pimienta’s men had the game under control, McBurnie came close to equalising with a shot off the post from a Marvin Park cross, after the ball touched Nyland.

Shortly afterwards, in the 42nd minute, after a cross from Kirian Rodriguez towards the Scottish international, the visiting centre-back Nianzou, in his attempt to clear, deflected the ball towards the goal defended by Nyland.

Las Palmas went further

After the break, Las Palmas started better against a hesitant opponent, with too many inaccuracies and more doubts in defence. Nyland saved a cross shot from Moleiro in the 58th minute.

Sevilla were suffering, but as football does not understand logic, Pimienta’s men enjoyed their second lead in the match: Isaac Romero escaped down the left and put in a low cross that Olympic champion Juanlu finished in the six-yard box, beating Kirian in the race. The goal came from a good exit of the ball -this time yes- from behind.

With the score against them, Carrión introduced changes and modified the formation to the one most used in the preseason, with the 4-2-3-1. One of those incorporated, Sandro Ramírez wasted little time tying the game again: He got behind Pedrosa and his shot ended up grazing the side before entering the goal.

The game began to break down and Lukébakio sent a shot into the side netting just before being replaced by Jesús Navas, positioned on the right wing, as in his origins.

In a game in which the defenses suffered too much, Cillessen saved Las Palmas in the final minutes in two centred shots from Sow that were repelled by the Dutch goalkeeper to allow his team to earn a point at the start of the league season.
