Uccle in shock after the discovery of anti-Semitic inscriptions, an open investigation: “There is no question of letting go”

During the day of Saturday, the inhabitants of the avenue des Ormeaux noted the presence of an inscription “Jew” tagged, in black paint, on a low wall, near a dental office. The identities of the people residing there were also tagged, except for one, probably left as a reminder of what happened before and during World War II in Nazi Germany.

The inscription “Jew” has since been erased. But the mayor of Uccle has been informed. Mr Boris Dilliès went there on Monday at the end of the followingnoon. Contacted by us, he speaks of an “unspeakable act” and confirms that an investigation is currently underway to try to put the grapple on the “brainless” person(s) who did this. The investigation focuses, in particular, on writing. It is also carried out by the exploitation of videos, even “if there are no cameras everywhere”. “In any caseinsists the mayor of Uccle, there is no question of letting go, of course“.

Joël Rubinfeld, of the Belgian League Against Anti-Semitism, was also notified. “The same inscriptionshe reacted on Monday, that were inflicted on the windows of shops belonging to Jews during the Second World War”.

Already at the end of December, a similar inscription had been tagged on the roadway of Avenue Château de Walzin. It was written, also in black paint, “Jew = Nazi”. This took place on December 21, 2021 and we can observe, by comparing them, that the writer wrote the “J” exactly the same way as Saturday at avenue des Ormeaux. Are we dealing with the same individual(s)? The places are barely 400 meters away, via Avenue Bourgmestre Jean Hérinckx and Avenue Messidor.

According to our information, a P.-V. has been drawn up and the Brussels public prosecutor’s office will be informed. An investigation is underway. Verifications (including cameras) are planned. The anti-tags team of the municipality of Uccle is mobilized.
