Zurich (awp) – The UBS board of directors will propose to its shareholders at the general meeting on April 24 the election of Gail Kelly. The latter should replace Dieter Wemmer, who has decided not to run for a new term.
Gail Kelly, 67, is a recognized executive in the financial services industry, and her banking executive career spans more than 35 years. She notably headed St. George Bank (2002-2007) and Westpac Bank Corporation (2008-2015). She also served as an advisor to the chief executive officer (CEO) of the three-key bank and its management team between 2016 and 2023.
Quoted in the press release, the chairman of the board of directors of the bank with three keys, Colm Kelleher, spoke of the “exceptional reputation” of the Australian, a recognized personality who knew how to successfully carry out a merger, and “one of the most influential voices in the financial sector in the Asia-Pacific region.
For his part, Dieter Wemmer announced that he will not be a candidate for re-election to the board of directors, which he joined in 2016 and of which he is currently the longest-serving member. During his eight years in office, he served on the risk, governance and nomination, remuneration and finally audit committees.
