A main game, Mirage, should land sometime in 2023.
Since the release of Valhalla at the end of 2020, Ubisoft had been relatively discreet regarding the future of its cult license, Assassin’s Creed. No more news since, except for a few DLC menus that have come to enhance the experience with the Vikings and the Anglo-Saxons. The first title being released fifteen years ago, we were then entitled to hear regarding Ubisoft in the coming days. And that’s good, since during an exceptional Ubisoft Forward, the French studio announced its ambitions for its franchise in the coming years.
And as much to say it immediately, this future looks more than radiant for the franchise. Remember Valhalla, Eivor, the main character, meets Basim Ibn Ishaq, an assassin from the Middle East. Well know that it is this character that we will embody in the next game of the saga, Assassin’s Creed Mirage.
Direction Baghdad and the 860s for this new quest once morest the Order of the Ancients. It is very clear with this opus, Ubisoft wants to operate a deep return to the sources. More stealth, parkour, and assassination, three elements that had largely taken a back seat in recent games like Origins, Odyssey, and Valhalla. At times, the fights will be more difficult to manage, and the player will then be advised to favor parkour between the buildings thanks to a kind of stick which allows you to go from roof to roof or an ability of Basim allowing … to slow down time.
The aspect RPG and gigantic open-world is finally abandoned in Mirage. Only the weapons can be improved, while the city of Baghdad will want to be more intimate. Exit therefore the gigantic maps representing an entire country, such as Greece or England. The game should also be more linear, even if a certain freedom will remain offered to the player. Baghdad has nothing to do with the one encountered in the first game, since 300 years earlier. Finally, returns to the modern world are bracketed in this opus. No more Layla or Desmond, the focus was only on Basim.
On the release date side, Assassin’s Creed Mirage should land sometime next year, without further details. If we refer to the usual release schedule for the franchise, we can expect a release for October or November 2023. Smaller and more intimate adventure requires, Ubisoft has also reduced the price for its game. Count 50€ for the classic game . Collector’s editions will logically cost more…
Mobile, disproportionate open-world…
But Ubisoft is not content to produce a new game with medium ambitions. Yves Guillemot and his teams have indeed in their boxes a certain Assassin’s Creed Codename Red. Behind this enigmatic name actually hides a new AAA taking place in feudal Japan. For the moment, the information regarding him is very meager, but there are still a few small details to put in your mouth.
After the Mirage interlude, Assassin’s Creed Red will be a return to oversized open-worlds. One can easily imagine that following having modeled 3/4 of England, Ubisoft is attacking Japan and its countless islands (more than 6,000). The RPG aspect will also be back in a title that “will embody the future of the open-world RPG in the license” according to Ubisoft. Finally, we will embody a shinobi who, unlike a samurai who attacks his opponent from the front, does not hesitate to use deceit and discretion to overcome his enemies.
Assassin’s Creed Codename Jade is the name of the future mobile game of the saga taking place in 215 BC in China. Ubisoft has often tried to tame the mobile market, never having really found the miracle formula.
With Jade, the French studio has imagined a real Assassin’s Creed game, with an open-world and its assassin, and controls adapted to a touch screen. The game will be completely free, free-to-play, and will allow, for the first time, to create your assassin from A to Z.
Finally, Codename Hexe would be a totally different title from anything Ubisoft has developed so far for the franchise. We will unfortunately not know more for the moment, but we can easily guess the plot of this episode.
In German, Hexe means witch. According to the visual provided by Ubisoft, one might imagine that the game immerses us in the middle of a witch hunt.
A hub for the future of licensing
But to bring all these games together, Ubisoft has created a “platform”. Assassin’s Creed Infinity will bring together the previous games of the franchise, but also those to come. Like a launcher without really being one, Infinity will allow us to choose the adventure in which we want to dive. These are different Assassin’s Creed experiences that will be brought together in one place. Finally, a multiplayer component should integrate this hub, in order to bring together gaming experiences, and connect them, or players.
The project is still very mysterious for the time being, and we really can’t wait to see what it will lead to.
