The takeover of Activision Blizzard by Microsoft obviously interests stakeholders such as Sony or antitrust organizations, but other industry giants are not indifferent to the situation, and this is the case of Ubisoft.

Yves Guillemot sees all this in a good light

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot said last week in a meeting with investors that Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard was “good news” for the video game industry because it showed the value of IPs and that Microsoft’s interest in mobile games with King was in line with Ubisoft’s investments in this sector.

“I think it’s good news that the transaction can happen because it really shows the power of IP and where the industry is going. So there will be a lot of opportunities in the future for all companies.

It’s a fantastic opportunity.

Microsoft says the mobile part of the Activision deal is important. So all the investments we’re making to be stronger on mobile are also in line with that.”

Indeed, Ubisoft has many mobile projects, namely Assassin’s Creed for Netflix, Assassin’s Creed Jade, Rainbow Six Mobile or The Division: Resurgence. Despite the fact that Ubisoft’s financial situation is still rather unclear and that takeover rumors resurface regularly, no transaction has ever been concluded and the Guillemot family remains Ubisoft’s main shareholder.

In the meantime, the case is moving in the right direction for Activision Blizzard in the USA facing the FTC and the merger deadline has been extended to October 18, 2023 to manage the CMA appeal process and defend its case.
