Ubisoft could bring back the Driver franchise

While Ubisoft has iconic franchises like Far Cry, Assassin’s Creed, and more, one of the most forgotten is Driver, a series of action-driving games that was born in 1999 and developed by Reflections Interactive, now known as Ubisoft Reflections, who developed Watch Dogs: Legion.

After all this time, the last installment of this franchise was Driver: San Francisco, released for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Wii in September 2011 and it has been more than 10 years since we have had a new game in the franchise.

In 2021, it announced a partnership with Binge to create a television adaptation of the long-running series, but a report de GameFile published last week revealed that the project had been scrapped.

Despite its cancellation, Ubisoft stressed that the Driver franchise as a whole will not be forgotten.

“We are no longer moving forward with our partnership with Binge for the Driver series,” a Ubisoft representative said. “We are actively working on other exciting projects related to the franchise and look forward to sharing more information in the future.”

While this doesn’t entirely confirm that the French developer is currently working on a new Driver game, those who miss the action behind the wheel have a bit of hope, but it should be noted that this confirmation might wait.

Ubisoft is developing several ambitious games, including Star Wars Outlaws and Assassin’s Creed Shadows, which are due in 2024. In 2025 (or later), there’s the Splinter Cell remake, Beyond Good & Evil 2, and other small and large-scale Assassin’s Creed games, just to name a few.
