Uber Launches New Teen Account Feature with Enhanced Safety Features in Boston and Beyond

Uber has launched a new type of account for teens to request their own rides and order food with parental supervision and additional safety features, and it’s now available in the Boston area.

Uber teen accounts will include live ride and delivery tracking, PIN verification, unexpected event alerts, audio recording, expanded communication, and Uber Eats for teens.

These functions will be under the control of the parents and the teenager will not be able to deactivate them.

A parent or guardian can invite the teen to create the account and complete a mandatory security onboarding process so they can request their own rides and meals.

“Teen accounts are created with transparency in mind so there are no surprises for parents, teens or drivers,” Mariana Esteves, Uber product manager, said in a statement.

In addition to Boston, teen accounts are now available in 250 cities in 49 US states.

The TODAY program saw how the new modality works.
