Uber is experimenting with a new service that lets users hire drivers from its app to complete household chores and daily projects, aiming to expand beyond its existing ridesharing and courier business.

The service, called Uber Tasks, will launch as a “small test” in the coming weeks in Fort Myers, Florida, and Edmonton, Alberta; reports Bloomberg.

The new option “ Chore » (task) would already be in the Uber app code for an online marketplace for freelancers, much like TaskRabbit or Thumbtack, except you would advertise tasks specifically to Uber drivers and couriers who can choose to participate in the program.

Uber drivers and couriers can see the estimated earnings for a job before booking it. Uber users can suggest tasks such as furniture assembly, snow removal, home laundry, packing/unpacking, yard maintenance, and lawn mowing during the first pilot test.

Uber couriers and drivers can then browse unassigned jobs, with estimated earnings displayed before booking them. On site The Verge, Uber is always looking at how to provide people with more ways to earn with Uber. “This little test is the newest way for drivers and couriers to put their skills to use and earn on their own schedule. »
