Uber driver challenges user to cancel trip: none gives in

Through TikTok, a user reported that Uber driver “Edgar” tried to earn money from his trip without picking him up. The Uber customer requested a ride, however, 40 minutes later the driver did not move, did not answer and did not cancel the trip. After, the user tried to contact the driver and was indifferent, so the customer refused to cancel the trip and pay the percentage that the application charges.

Requesting transportation through applications is one of the great trends that facilitate mobility for people, avoiding the saturation of public services.

According to information from the Federal Telecommunications Institute, in 2020, In Mexico, the use of applications such as Uber, Rappi, etc., became highly relevantsince it was positioned as the ninth activity of citizens with 25.4 percent of use.

At first, the applications showed exclusive, innovative and differentiated services from conventional taxis, but the custom seems to be lost. Complaints regarding poor services, abusive drivers, cases of abuse, intimidation, theft and other situations that negatively involve drivers from different digital platforms such as Uber, DiDi, Cabify, among others, are increasing.

In two videos, the user commented that he asked for an Uber, but it did not move from his place for 40 minutes. When trying to contact, the driver showed disinterest, asked to continue waiting and the user refused to cancel.

Seeing that the driver did not cancel, the user decided to ask for a DiDi and let him know in a message.

“I’m not interested. I am calm at home”, were the words of the Uber driver in response to the bad experience.

In this regard, the user pointed out that he might leave the application running on his smartphone and until he cancels, the consequence would be for him since he cannot take another trip and continue working.

According to Uber, “cancellation fees is to compensate the driver for the time and effort of driving to the starting pointas well as ensuring that the application is efficient for everyone”, but it seems that the driver of the denounced application took the trip knowing that he was not going to move from place and waiting for the desperation of the user to travel, he would cancel it; However, the user’s patience led him to exhibit poor service by the driver and his photo and license plate number is now viral.

And it is that in the application if you cancel the trip two minutes following the driver has canceled it, a fee is charged.

With more than two hours of challenge between the driver and the user. In the end, the driver decided to cancel and the user switched from Uber to DiDi.
