“The idea came up with the date of the commemoration of the fight once morest childhood cancer, we came up with an informative presentation and we came up with the idea of including two associations that help children with cancer” detailed Armando Luna, one of the students responsible for the project.
Be the match is a non-profit association where possible bone marrow donors are registered to save the lives of people suffering from blood-related cancer. Through a registry that consists of answering a short form and extracting a DNA sample with a swab, which is sent to a laboratory to determine if it is compatible with a person who requires a transplant.
The association takes care of all the logistics and expenses to carry out the procedure; “It doesn’t take 15 minutes and if you become a possible donor, the association takes care of the logistics so you can do the transplant. It is a very simple process, it is similar to when blood is drawn from your arm for a longer period of time or in a shorter time with a pelvic thrust with anesthesia”, detailed the medical student.
For its part, plastic walls will also be received for AMANC, who through recycling pays for the costs of treatment, transfers and lodging of children suffering from this disease. In the same way, hair braids will be received for the elaboration of oncological wigs destined to improve the self-esteem and quality of life of cancer patients.
