Dubai: UAE has set up fresh water plants to quench the thirst of the war-torn people of Gaza. Three plants for purifying sea water have been built on the Egyptian side of the Rafah border. The systems were inaugurated by the UAE Political Affairs Asst. Lana Nusayba, Minister and Permanent Representative to the UN.

The project was presented to the people of Gazan in the presence of many representatives of the UN Security Council. The UN representatives reached the Rafah border in cooperation with the UAE and Egypt. The purification plants were built as part of various projects implemented by the UAE to help the people of Gaza in distress. The region is currently suffering from shortage of drinking water.

It is estimated that three lakh people can be supplied with drinking water from three new desalination plants. Each day, approximately 6,00,000 gallons of seawater will be treated and sent through the pipe network in Gaza.

Three plants are planned to be built in Rafah as part of the ‘Gallant Knight-3’ operation implemented by the UAE. According to the instructions of the UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the ‘Gallant Night-3’ operation was announced on November 5 to help the Palestinian people. The Emirates Red Crescent is overseeing the UAE’s relief efforts in Gaza.
