ABU DHABI, 13th August, 2020 (WAM) — Afra Mahsh Al Hameli, Director of the Strategic Communication Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, affirmed the UAE’s categorical and decisive rejection of allegations that it has been supplying arms and ammunition to parties to the conflict in brotherly Sudan, which were issued by a media outlet.
Al-Hamli said in statements that the UAE has not provided any of the warring parties in Sudan with weapons and ammunition since the outbreak of the conflict in April 2023.
Al-Hamli stressed that the UAE does not take sides in the current conflict in Sudan, and that the state seeks to end the conflict, and calls for respect for the sovereignty of brotherly Sudan.
Al-Hamli indicated in the statement that since the beginning of the conflict, the UAE has called, through bilateral and multilateral meetings, in cooperation with its partners from the international community, to stop the escalation and shooting, and to start diplomatic dialogue.
She added, “The UAE has always supported the path of the political process in Sudan and the efforts made to achieve national consensus towards forming a government, and it will continue to support all efforts aimed at establishing security in brotherly Sudan and enhancing its stability and prosperity, until a ceasefire is achieved.”
Al-Hamli stressed that the UAE continues to respond to the humanitarian conditions suffered by the Sudanese people and their repercussions on neighboring countries.
The UAE seeks to provide all forms of support to alleviate the suffering of the Sudanese people, as the state launched an air and sea bridge that contributed to providing regarding 2,000 tons of medical, food and relief supplies for the most needy groups, including patients, children, the elderly and women.
Al-Hamli indicated that the UAE built a field hospital in the city of Amdgrass in the Republic of Chad last July to provide medical care to those in need, regardless of nationality, age, gender or political affiliation, explaining that the hospital has succeeded in treating 4,147 cases since its establishment. In this context, Al-Hamli noted that the UAE recently opened a coordination office for Emirati foreign aid in the city of Amdgrass.
