UAE’s Commitment to Stability and Peace in Yemen: Full Compliance with UN Resolutions

The United Arab Emirates affirmed its commitment to support efforts to establish stability and peace in Yemen, calling on the Houthi group to fully comply with the Security Council resolution to extend the work of the United Nations Mission in Support of the Hodeidah Agreement and to remove all obstacles and restrictions imposed on the mission’s freedom of movement.
In a statement delivered by Ambassador Mohammed Abu Shehab, the country’s deputy permanent representative to the United Nations before the UN Security Council yesterday, the UAE welcomed the council’s unanimous adoption of the decision to extend the mandate of the United Nations Mission to Support the Hodeidah Agreement (UNMHA), expressing its appreciation for the UK’s role in presenting and facilitating the draft resolution. .
The UAE called on the Houthi group to fully comply with the Security Council’s decision and remove all obstacles and restrictions imposed on the freedom of movement of the mission, including allowing it to conduct unannounced patrols of the ports without obstacles, in addition to directing the revenues of the port of Hodeidah for the benefit of the Yemeni people, and paying the delayed salaries of employees in accordance with the Stockholm Agreement. And stop using this money to finance their war effort.
The UAE said: “We are fully aware of the positive developments that the Yemeni file has recently enjoyed, and the progress achieved towards maintaining the calm that saw the light more than a year ago. Despite this, we must remember that the Yemeni people, who have been exhausted by the war, deserve a better reality that guarantees He has a decent life in which war has no place. The time has come to establish a comprehensive peace that transcends fleeting truces, a peace that achieves national reconciliation and a fair distribution of wealth among all Yemenis.
The UAE affirmed its full support for the efforts made by the United Nations on the humanitarian and political levels. It also appreciated the Saudi role in defusing tensions in Yemen, thus witnessing the longest period of relative calm since the beginning of the crisis, praising the role of the Sultanate of Oman in mediating and bringing together the views that diverged due to the war.
The UAE said in the statement: “Despite the restraint shown by the Yemeni government forces, we note an unjustified escalation by the Houthis on various fronts in Taiz, Marib, Shabwa, Al Hudaydah and Al Dhale’e, including artillery attacks and air strikes using drones, which led to many casualties.” Civilians, including children, as we witnessed in the attack that injured 5 children in Hays district last week.”
She added, “This situation requires us to play our vital role and to demand that the Houthis firmly stop these attacks immediately, and refrain from any attempts to rekindle the flames of war. The armistice, through smuggling operations, in flagrant violation of Resolution 2216.
It called on the state to speed up reaching a permanent ceasefire agreement, accompanied by a series of confidence-building measures, including opening roads, unifying the economy, disbursing salaries, and exchanging prisoners.
She indicated that this agreement is the necessary basis for starting a political dialogue between the Yemeni parties, to reach a comprehensive and sustainable political solution.
The UAE said in the statement: “Yemen is facing great challenges in terms of humanitarian work, while the Houthi group is still imposing severe restrictions on the arrival of aid and the movement of aid workers, especially women, and is also trying to control the lists of beneficiaries by imposing illegal regimes they have established, The Houthis continue to wage an economic war once morest the Yemeni people and the Yemeni government, which exacerbates human suffering, by targeting oil facilities and ports in the governorates of Shabwa and Hadramout, restricting trade movement within the country, threatening companies and banks and forcing them to import goods through the port of Hodeidah only, in addition to the confiscation of lands, buildings and private property in a form arbitrary. And it came to them to threaten to damage the infrastructure for the production and export of oil and gas in the Ma’rib governorate.
She added, “The Houthis also exploit summer camps and school curricula to sow the seeds of hatred and extremism among children. These actions are not only a violation of the rights of the child, but extremism is also a real danger that threatens the recurrence of conflicts in the future, as recognized by Resolution 2686, which was adopted by this Council last month.” ».
At the end of the statement, the UAE welcomed the start of the process of safe transportation of oil from the Safer reservoir, within the framework of the efforts led by the United Nations, and appreciated the efforts of the Netherlands in this context.
She affirmed the continuous support for all regional and international efforts aimed at ending the conflict and achieving stability and progress in Yemen, expressing her aspiration for the day when Yemen will recover and peace and prosperity will prevail in all its parts.
