UAE’s ADNOC exports first shipment of low-carbon ammonia to Germany

Abu Dhabi – Mubasher: The Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) announced today, Thursday, the export of the first shipment of low-carbon ammonia produced by the UAE to Germany.

This is the first trial shipment of low-carbon ammonia to Germany, for Orbis, the global supplier of non-ferrous metals and one of the world’s largest copper recyclers, according to a press release.

This trial shipment was produced by Fertiglobe, a joint venture between ADNOC and OCI, at its Fertil plant in the Ruwais Industrial Complex in Abu Dhabi.

This shipment is the first of several trial shipments that ADNOC intends to export to its customers in Germany in its endeavor to expand its strategic partnership in the energy field to include all components and aspects of the hydrogen value chain.

Orbis plans to use low-carbon ammonia as a feedstock in its wire rod plant, and test its application as an additional low-carbon energy source for industrial upgrading.

Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, Managing Director and CEO of ADNOC and its group of companies, said: “Exporting this shipment of low-carbon ammonia contributes to strengthening the strong friendship and growing partnerships between the two countries in the field of clean energy, and confirms the growing role that ADNOC is playing as a reliable supplier. for low-emission energy.

During the visit of Robert Habeck, Minister of Economic Affairs and Climate Protection in the German Federal Government, to the UAE last March, ADNOC signed agreements with a number of German companies aimed at exploring areas of cooperation in the production of low-carbon ammonia and clean hydrogen-derived energy sources.
