A UAE foreign official said Yemeni rebels attacked Abu Dhabi with various missiles as well as drones.
UAE Ambassador to the United States, Yousef Al-Otaiba, told the Associated Press on the 19th (local time) that Yemeni rebels carried out several complex attacks using cruise missiles, ballistic missiles and drones.
“Most attacks were neutralized (by air defense systems), but some failed to defend, and innocent civilians were killed,” he added.
Ambassador Al-Otaiba did not respond to a question regarding the number of missiles fired by Yemeni rebels, the Associated Press reported.
The AP explained that this was the first confirmation from the UAE that missiles were used in the Yemeni rebel attack.
Yemeni rebels (self-proclaimed Ansarullah) attacked Abu Dhabi International Airport and oil facilities on the 17th.
The attack killed two Indians and a Pakistani working at the oil facility, and injured six other workers.
Local police found small aircraft parts at the site of the attack.
Rebel spokesman Ahya Sarea said following the attack that “five ballistic missiles and multiple drones were used to hit sensitive targets in the UAE.”
