The UAE President’s statement came in a meeting held with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow yesterday, Monday, with the participation of the delegations of the two countries, where ways to strengthen strategic relations between Russia and the UAE were discussed.

The Emirati President said, “Concluding a partnership agreement between the UAE and the Eurasian Union will represent an important step to strengthen relations with Russia.”

At the meeting, the Emirati President spoke about the growth of non-oil trade between the two countries, and said: “In 2018, the volume of trade exchange between countries, excluding oil, reached approximately 2.5 billion dollars, but in 2023 this indicator exceeded the level of 11 billion dollars.”

He added that relations between Russia and the UAE are witnessing qualitative development, especially in the field of economy, trade and energy, expressing his country’s readiness to work to increase the volume of trade exchange with Russia, which has increased since 2018.

Bin Zayed stated that today’s meeting is the third between the two presidents within a year and a half, which is an indication of the strategy of relations between Moscow and Abu Dhabi.

For his part, the Russian President pointed out the importance of cooperation between Moscow and Abu Dhabi, especially on issues of a global nature, noting that Russia and the UAE are cooperating within the framework of international institutions and bodies, including BRICS, whose summit begins tomorrow in Kazan, Russia.

The Russian President also stressed the importance of cooperation between the two countries in the cultural and humanitarian fields, and in the field of education.

Last August, the Russian Foreign Ministry announced that the Eurasian Union was working intensively with the UAE to complete the free trade zone agreement between the two sides.

The Eurasian Economic Union includes Russia, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan. The union’s market is estimated at about 190 million consumers, and Cuba, Moldova, and Uzbekistan have observer member status.

The Union’s agreements guarantee to all its members the freedom of movement of goods, services, capital, and labor, and the adoption of an agreed-upon policy in the sectors of trade, energy, industry, agriculture, and transportation.
