Astana, June 20, WAM/ Our first judo team resumed its training at its temporary residence in Kazakhstan, immediately following the end of the 2023 Astana Grand Slam Judo Championship, which was recently concluded in the Kazakh city of Astana.
The coaching staff and players announced their readiness to participate in the Ulaanbaatar Grand Slam Judo Championship, which will be held in Mongolia from June 23-25, as part of the four major international tournaments.
His Excellency Mohammed bin Thaloub Al-Derei, President of the UAE Judo Federation, conveyed, during a phone call to Nasser Al-Tamimi, Secretary-General of the Federation, Treasurer of the International Federation and Head of Mission, his congratulations, and expressed his satisfaction with the performance of our first team in the recent Astana Grand Slam tournament within the first team’s program to collect qualifying points for the 2024 Paris Olympics. .
After the call, Ben Thaloub confirmed that our team will participate in the Ulaanbaatar Grand Slam tournament with one player in the weight of 57 kg, and one player in the weight competitions under 66 kg to benefit from strong friction and gain international experience.
It is scheduled that this participation will be followed by the establishment of a special camp in the mountains of Bulgaria in preparation for the Masters Championship in Budapest during the period from 4-6 August next, while the team’s program continues until hosting the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam Championship during the period from 24-26 October next.
