Aircraft manufacturer United Aircraft Corporation (UAC), part of Russia’s state-owned arms conglomerate Rostec, has delivered an additional batch of Sukhoi Su-34 fighter-bombers to the Russian Air Force, the press service reported on Thursday. UAC.
“UAC delivered a new batch of Su-34 frontline bombers to the Russian Aerospace Forces. These splendid planes were manufactured at the Novosibirsk Aircraft Plant (in Siberia). The planes underwent a series of ground and flight tests and were delivered to the Russian Ministry of Defense“, said the press office in a statement published on its Telegram channel. The number of devices included in this batch was not specified.
“The Su-34 has extended combat capabilities, allowing it to use advanced air-to-air and air-to-surface munitions, increase the range of land and naval strikes, and extend the conditions and accuracy of bombing. The Su-34 is a two-seat side-by-side fighter-bomber considered to be of the fourth generation. It can operate in all weathers and at night. It has a range of 4,000 km, can reach a speed of maximum speed of 1,900 km/h and is capable of carrying up to eight tons of armaments (bombs and missiles).
According to several sources, around 20 Su-34s – out of a total fleet of around 140 aircraft – were lost, damaged or abandoned by the Russian Aerospace Forces (VKS) since the start of the invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022. Most of the losses were confirmed by images of wreckage, but it is impossible to know whether they were shot down by anti-aircraft defenses or by Ukrainian fighters, or even friendly fire.
