U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said at a press conference held at the U.S. Embassy in Beijing, wrapping up her four-day visit to China, that “we are not pursuing decoupling (with China),” and “there is a clear distinction between decoupling and supply chain diversification.” .
“Decoupling would be disastrous for both countries, would destabilize the world, and would be unfeasible,” Yellen said.
He said he was looking for a dynamic, healthy, fair, free and open world economy and would not let other countries take sides.
Secretary Yellen also stressed that although there are significant differences between the US and China, the two countries have an obligation to manage the relationship responsibly.
Saying that disagreements cannot be resolved at once, he introduced that the visit was meaningful in creating a durable and productive dialogue channel with China’s new economic team.
Yellen said the US and China have made some progress and believes that a healthy relationship can be built.
Minister Yellen visited China on the 6th and met with Prime Minister Lichang, Vice Premier Heifeng, former Vice Premier Liu He, and Minister of Finance Liu Kun.
