The U.S. State Department took a cautious stance on North Korea’s announcement of success, saying it was analyzing North Korea’s reconnaissance satellite. We also confirmed our position that we strongly condemn North Korea’s illegal launches. Reporter Ham Ji-ha reports.

The State Department strongly condemned North Korea’s satellite launch on the 21st.

In response to a question regarding North Korea’s announcement that a reconnaissance satellite successfully entered orbit, spokesman Matthew Miller said at a regular briefing on the same day, “We cannot confirm such an assessment,” and added, “This is a matter that is still being (analyzed) within the U.S. government.”

Spokesperson Miller emphasized, “We condemn North Korea’s illegal launch of a military reconnaissance satellite.” At the same time, he criticized, “This launch used ballistic missile technology containing a space launch vehicle, which is a violation of multiple UN Security Council resolutions.”

[녹취: 밀러 대변인] “This launch utilizes ballistic missile technology, which includes space launch vehicles, it violates multiple United Nations Security Council resolutions. And we will continue to work with the international community to send a strong signal to the DPRK that its actions will only intensify its isolation as it undermines stability and prosperity on the Korean peninsula.”

In addition, “We will continue to work with the international community to send a strong signal to North Korea that these actions will only undermine the stability and prosperity of the Korean Peninsula and deepen its isolation,” Miller said.

Spokesperson Miller avoided an immediate answer to a reporter’s additional question regarding whether North Korea would be concerned if its claims were true, saying, “We will not comment on it until an official evaluation is made.”

Previously, North Korea launched its third military reconnaissance satellite in the Dongchang-ri area at around 10:43 pm on the 21st, Korean Peninsula time.
