U.S. Olympic figure skater Alysa Liu (Alysa Liu), a two-time U.S. figure skating champion and 7th in this year’s Winter Olympics, announced today that she has retired from the skating stage at the age of 16.
Liu Meixian, from the San Francisco Bay Area, posted on Instagram that she had been skating since she was 5 years old and “never thought she would have achieved such a great achievement.”
“Now that I’ve accomplished my goal in skating, I’m going to move on to my life,” she said. She said that 11 years of skating have learned a lot more than she expected. “It’s good and bad, but you know that’s what it is,” and “I’m really happy that I’m skating.”
Liu Meixian won the U.S. women’s single skating championship in 2019 and 2020 respectively. Bronze at the 2020 Women’s Singles Championship in Tallinn, Estonia.
She debuted early and was too young to participate in the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics; she was diagnosed with COVID-19 (coronavirus disease 2019) in the U.S. in January this year and was almost unable to participate in the Beijing Winter Olympics. She successfully petitioned to become the youngest athlete on Team USA.
In this year’s Beijing Winter Olympics, due to insufficient rotation for three and a half weeks, she ranked seventh in both free skating and total scores. She told Olympic reporters at the time that she was happy with her performance and didn’t fall, and “practiced hard and left unforgettable memories”.
Liu Meixian’s father, Arthur Liu, is a Chinese political refugee. He once told US media that the FBI told them last October that the father and daughter were targeted by Chinese agents. During the Beijing Winter Olympics, the US State Department and the US The Olympic Committee once sent personnel to protect Liu Meixian’s safety.
In her childhood, Liu Meixian chose to study at home in order to take into account travel competitions. She attended the “California Connections Academy” (provisional translation), and two other well-known American skaters, Taiwanese Karen Chen and Chinese Zhou Zhi Fang (Vincent Zhou) is the same.
