The Los Angeles Lakers will quickly solve their depth problem at post 5. While JaVale McGee had a superb start to the season, the tandem Magic Johnson-Rob Pelinka found the right man to offer Luke Walton an alternative. As Marc Stein of The New York Times announced, the Phoenix Suns will release Tyson Chandler by offering him a buy-out. Obviously, everything is already arranged between the former best defenseman of the year and the Lakers for a signing in the coming days, once the deadline for a team to claim him via waivers has passed. At more than 13 million per season, there won’t be many people at the gate. While he’s inevitably been off the radar since he’s been in Phoenix, Chandler is an energetic, experienced and much-loved veteran in the NBA. This reinforcement will necessarily be appreciated in a locker room which is still populated by a lot of young players. If all goes well, it will be a nice move for the Lakers not so far from returning to a balanced balance sheet. Chandler, 36, will wear a Los Angeles team jersey for the first time, having been a local star at Dominguez High School before going straight to the NBA and Chicago in 2001.
