A landslide in Cao Bang on Monday caused a bus carrying about 20 people to overturn into a flooded stream. The bus was swept away by the current and rescuers were only able to save one person. Two bodies have been recovered and the others are still missing, state media VN Express reported.
Heavy rains and landslides also killed 19 people in the northwestern province of Lao Cai, which borders China. Video obtained by The Associated Press showed earth sliding down hills onto houses and the road as people fled for safety.
In the northern province of Phu Tho, a steel bridge collapsed into the Red River. Ten cars and trucks and two motorcycles reportedly fell into the river. Three people were rescued and 13 remained missing, state media reported Tuesday, adding that rescue operations were continuing.
