Typhoon in China, more than 4 lakh people moved to safe places

Typhoon Doxori hit southeast China on Friday morning, prompting more than 400,000 people to evacuate due to possible danger to residents.

China’s state broadcaster CCTV reported that the storm recorded wind speeds of 175 kilometers per hour (110 miles per hour) after it made landfall in Fujian province.

According to the report, the China Meteorological Observatory has issued a very severe ‘red alert’ due to fears of possible danger to residents and destruction of property.

China’s official news agency Xinhua reported that more than 416,000 people were evacuated to safe places in Fujian.

The powerful typhoon Doxori is expected to continue moving northwestward over central China, but its intensity is gradually weakening.

But typhoon-level winds will affect the coastal areas of Taiwan, Fujian, Zhejiang and Guangdong by 8 a.m. Saturday, Xinhua reported.

China’s National Meteorological Center also renewed its orange alert for rain and thunderstorms in large parts of the country.

Typhoon Doxuri toppled trees and power poles in the northern Philippines on Wednesday, causing widespread power outages while causing landslides and flooding, with the death toll in the Philippines rising to 13. Another 21 are missing.
