Beloved Tyler Perry Studios Executive Steve Mensch Dies in Plane Crash
Steve Mensch, the President and Manager of General Operations for Tyler Perry Studios, tragically passed away in a plane crash on Friday night. He was 62. According to reports, Mensch was piloting a single-seat plane when it crashed onto a road in Homosassa, Florida. Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the accident.
A Driving Force Behind a Hollywood Powerhouse
Mensch joined Tyler Perry Studios in 2016, playing a pivotal role in the company’s expansion. He oversaw the studio’s significant transition from its Greenbrier location to the sprawling former Fort McPherson Army Base in Atlanta. This ambitious move resulted in the creation of a 330-acre film and television production lot—one of the largest in the country.
Under Mensch’s leadership, the studio lot became a hub not only for Perry’s own productions but also for a wide range of outside projects. He also navigated the studio through the unprecedented challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Notably, Tyler Perry Studios was among the first filming locations to go back into operation during the pandemic, implementing rigorous COVID-19 protocols to ensure the safety of cast and crew.
“A Cherished Member of Our Team”
“We are incredibly saddened by the passing of our dear friend, Steve Mensch,” said a representative for Tyler Perry Studios in a heartfelt statement. “Steve was a cherished member of our team for more than 8 years, and well beloved in the community of Atlanta. It is hard to imagine not seeing him smiling throughout the halls. We will miss him dearly. Our heart goes out to his family as we all send them our prayers.”
A Legacy of Leadership and Experience
Prior to his impactful tenure at Tyler Perry Studios, Mensch had a distinguished career in the entertainment industry. His background encompassed studio operations, strategic partnerships, and sales, demonstrating his diverse expertise. He held key leadership positions at Third Rail Studios, Qingdao Oriental Movie Industrial Park, and Turner Broadcasting. He also gained valuable experience working at Feature Systems Inc., AT&T, and Embassy Suites.
A Devoted Family Man
Mensch is survived by his wife and three children.
