HOCKEY. Sigh of relief for Tyler Peddle.
The young Drummondville Voltigeurs forward became the very last player selected in the National Hockey League (NHL) draft on Thursday in Nashville. The Columbus Blue Jackets selected the 18-year-old Nova Scotian late in the seventh round, 224th and last overall. The Ohio organization made a trade with the Las Vegas Golden Knights to obtain this choice.
Ranked 46th among North American skaters in the middle of the season, Tyler Peddle had dropped to 76th on the final list of the NHL Central Scouting. A natural scorer, the 6-foot-1, 204-pound winger mightn’t make up for his shortcomings defensively. At the beginning of June, he was nevertheless invited to take part in the evaluation session bringing together the best hopes of the draft in Buffalo.

In his second season in the QMJHL, Tyler Peddle tallied 41 points, including 24 goals, in 64 games. His differential was -22. In the playoffs, the young sniper was limited to two goals and one assist in nine games.
Riley Mercer ignored
In his second year of eligibility, Riley Mercer was once once more passed over by all 32 NHL teams. The name of the 19-year-old goalkeeper appeared in 24th place among North American goaltenders evaluated by the Bettman circuit’s recruiting center.
Last year, Riley Mercer made a good impression as a player invited to the training camp of the Montreal Canadiens. After knee surgery, the Newfoundlander has a 3.07 goals- once morest average and a 0.902% save percentage in the regular season. In the playoffs, Dawson Mercer’s younger brother had a 3.26 GAA and 0.907% save percentage.
Again this year, Riley Mercer must therefore resolve to wait for an invitation from an NHL team.
