A serious household accident occurred in Pierbach in the Mühlviertel region of Upper Austria on Sunday morning. A 30-year-old woman put dried toast through a meat grinder in her kitchen to make breadcrumbs. As the police reported in the evening, they had placed the device on a mobile platform. In an unobserved moment, her two-year-old son climbed onto the pedestal and reached into the filling opening with his right hand.
Several of his fingers were caught by the screw conveyor. The mother immediately switched off the device, but the boy still suffered serious injuries to his hand. He was treated by the emergency doctor and flown to the UKH Linz by rescue helicopter.
