To begin with, the measure will initially concern vehicles registered before 2017 which will have to pass the inspection no later than December 31, 2024.

Please note, however, if the two-wheeler is put into circulation more than one year before April 15: the check must be carried out no later than August 14, 2024. Concerning vehicles whose anniversary date of putting into circulation is following April 15, the inspection should be carried out within 4 months following the anniversary date, and no later than 12/31/2024.

This will then be followed by two-wheelers registered between January 1, 2017 and December 31, 2019 for which the first inspection must be carried out in 2025. As for vehicles registered between January 1, 2020 and December 31, 2021, the first inspection will only be mandatory in 2026. For the most recent vehicles, registered following January 1, 2022, the first checks will have to be carried out within 4 and a half to 5 years following entry into circulation. Please note that the reinspection (the 2nd check) should take place following 3 years, a period retained as the validity period of this technical check.

What does two-wheeler control involve and where to do it?

But what exactly does this control consist of and where to do it? During the technical examination of the vehicle, the check will cover the functions of the braking equipment, steering (steering wheel, handlebars, column), visibility, lighting (lights, reflective devices and electrical equipment), wheels, tires, axles, suspension, and nuisances (noise emissions and exhaust pollutants). Please note that checks will be carried out in specialized centers having received approval from the competent authorities in this area.

To this end, control centers already approved for the inspection of light and/or heavy vehicles will also be able to provide the service provided that they carry out the necessary administrative and technical procedures to benefit from an extension of their approval for this service, namely the inspection of category L vehicles.

What are the risks in the event of a lack of technical control?

In addition, if a driver is caught by the police or gendarmerie for lack of technical inspection, he risks a fine of up to 750 euros. The basic fine is, however, an amount of 135 euros within a time limit set out in the fine report.
