Bi-directional charging of electric vehicles is the topic of the moment. This means that the car not only charges electricity, but can also deliver it to other devices. We did the test and went for a barbecue in the forest with the Genesis GV60.
Electric car manufacturers are on the rise. Unlike traditional thermal vehicles, the sale of electric vehicles is increasing with a double-digit growth rate. That’s why all brands are currently trying to outdo each other and score points with even longer range and even better driving performance, in order to get a slice of the pie. But in the future, the big highlight could be a whole new feature: two-way charging, which opens up whole new possibilities.

Juice for the electric barbecue
Currently, only a few EVs are able to offer two-way charging – in other words, to “refuel” with electricity, but also to store it and return it to any other device. The Genesis GV60 is one of the first models to offer this option, which we obviously plan to test. Connecting a laptop or charging the battery of another car would be far too banal. As the barbecue season has just started, we decided, rather than having a big test drive, to take a break in the green for some grilling.
Easy handling
The adapter for the vehicle charging port comes directly with the Genesis GV60. It is therefore almost impossible to make a mistake. You must first connect the connector to the vehicle’s charging port, before connecting the barbecue and off you go! It is now that everything is played. After just a few minutes, the barbecue is hot enough to put the sausages, burgers and vegetables on. There is also no fear of consuming the little electricity that remained in the battery. On the one hand, the latter was still almost full when we arrived on the scene. Indeed, the 800 Volt technology allows the Genesis GV60 to be charged from 10 to 80% in just 18 minutes on a fast charging station. On the other hand, bi-directional charging stops working once the battery charge drops below a certain threshold, such as 20%.
Something to wish each other “Bon appetit!” half an hour later. Two-way charging is much easier to use than expected. And we quickly made up for the “lost” time. After all, the Genesis GV60 has 490 hp under the hood, sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4 seconds or goes from 80 to 120 km/h in 2.5 seconds. Even if that shouldn’t be enough to make it on time for dinner, we have everything we need with us.
