Two trans girls reported being attacked in Castiglione in Teverina, in the province of Viterbo, during the celebrations for the Wine Festival. This was confirmed by Arcigay Viterbo, which in a statement said that “the group of young people first made comments to the girls and then moved on to attacking them only after discovering their gender identity”. According to the association, given the facts, this is “a clear episode of transphobic violence that cannot be considered and therefore dismissed as a simple fight”. Arcigay Viterbo immediately contacted the victims “providing all the necessary support” and hoping “that the perpetrators of the vile attack are identified as soon as possible”. “This escalation of violence against LGBTQ+ people – continues Arcigay Viterbo – is a clear sign of social degeneration and an unstoppable spiral of hatred that is spreading, fueled by a clear political narrative that sees diversity as a danger and not as an asset”.
The story of the two young women was shared on the Tusciapride Viterbo Facebook page: “A few hours ago, the news came of an extremely violent transphobic attack against two trans women in a square in Castiglione in Teverina, in the province of Viterbo, during a village festival. ‘We were attacked by a pack of boys, the oldest was probably 20 years old. The only question the sheep were asking was whether we were women or trans. After calling the police and security, no one was able to stop half the idiot… of the pack, focusing on the fact that we looked provocative’. This is what the two girls reported to the media”, reads the post expressing solidarity with the victims.
