Two toddlers die successively under the supervision of their grandmother

Two young children have died in less than a year while cared for by their grandmother in Florida.

Tracey Nix, 65, is charged with manslaughter in the death of her grandson, Uriel. The toddler, only seven months old at the time of the incident, would have remained locked in the car for a long time in the middle of a heat wave while his grandmother was playing the piano, in November 2022, according to an affidavit, revealed “Fox News”.

The woman then allegedly told the police that “suddenly” it “came into her head” that the toddler had been in the car all followingnoon. It was her partner, Nun Ney Nix, who found the child and tried to resuscitate him in vain.

It was, however, the second time that such a tragedy occurred in this family. Indeed, nearly one year before these events, the child’s older brother had drowned while he was under the responsibility of this same grandmother.

“When I got home, I come to pick up my little girl, and there are ambulances there, and I’m like, ‘What’s going on?’ Uriel, Drew Schock, at Fox 13 Tampa Bay. “I had flashbacks, […] it was exactly the same scene.”

In December 2021, 16-month-old Ezra was reportedly released from the home while Tracey Nix slept. The toddler would then have fallen into a pond in which he drowned. At the time, authorities were unable to lay charges due to lack of evidence.

“The 2022 incident is factually distinguishable and charges have been filed,” the state’s attorney’s office said in a statement sent to ABC Action News in Tampa Bay.
